Putting the environment first

Renewable Energy

At Burton Smith we are dedicated to helping our customers reduce their carbon emissions so we can work together to protect our planet for today’s and future generations! Renewable energy is energy produced form naturally abundant sources such as solar power and ground heat. We call it renewable energy because these processes will always be there, unlike supplies of fuels like oil, coal and natural gas, which are used up once they are burned and will one day run out.
It is possible to install our renewable energy systems in both new builds and established homes so no matter what type of property you have we will be able to help you on your journey to reducing the environmental impact of your home.

Types of renewable energy services we offer at Burton Smith

Air source heat pumps

An air source heat pump works by absorbing heat from the environment, even when temperatures are well below freezing. It extracts heat from the air around us and transfers that heat to the inside of your home, keeping you warm and comfortable.

Ground source heat pumps

A ground source heat pump, sometimes referred to as a ground-to-water heat pump, works similarly to a air source heat pump but transfers heat from the ground outside your home to heat your home. Like the air source pump the ground source heat pump can also be used to heat radiators or under-floor heating. It can also heat water stored in a hot water cylinder for your hot taps and showers.

Biomass energy

Biomass is a renewable energy source, generated from burning wood, plants and other organic matter, such as manure or household waste. It releases carbon dioxide when burned, but considerably less than fossil fuels.
Biomass heating systems burn wood pellets, chips or logs to provide warmth in a single room or to power central heating and hot water boilers. A stove burns logs or pellets to heat a single room. You can also have these installed with a back boiler to provide water heating as well.

Solar panels

A solar panel consists of many cells made from layers of semi-conducting material, most commonly silicon. When light shines on this material, a flow of electricity is created. The cells don’t need direct sunlight to work and can even work on cloudy days. However, the stronger the sunshine, the more electricity generated. . This electricity can be used throughout your home, or exported to the grid.

Advantages of installing a renewable energy system in your home

- Increased energy efficiency - And as renewable energy continue to get cheaper year-on-year, fossil fuels are actually getting more expensive.

- Reduced fuel/ energy bills - A typical solar panel system can save homeowners up to 50-70% on their energy bills.

- Carbon emission reduction – By switching from energy that comes directly from burning fossil fuels you will be massively reducing yours and your families carbon footprint.

- Protecting our environment for future generations - Generating energy that produces no greenhouse gas emissions and Carbon dioxide from fossil fuels and reduces air pollution
